Donate to Charities and be Recognized… Increase Advertising

Most people donate to charities from the kindness of their heart. Others donate to charities for tax deductions. Some donate their clothing for people in need. Others donate to get their name recognized.

We will discuss the benefits of donating to charities to get your name or businesses recognized.

When I walk into the Basilica of St. Mary’s in Minneapolis, MN, I see a gorgeous ceiling filled with artwork. When I turn around a see a list of businesses and people who have donated to make something else happen, a beautiful roof that can be seen for miles across the Minneapolis area.

These people donated to a Catholic charity not only to help something that means a lot to them but also to get their named recognized for years to come.

Many local schools or other community services like the YMCA offer a chance for people and businesses to donate and get their name recognized through things such as buy a brick or buy a wall. What happens is people buy these bricks and the money goes to causes that will help the community such as building a playground to kids to football fields for the school.

This does not only benefit places such as the YMCA and local school, it also helps you. It is free advertising for you or your business.

A local business person told me that when they donated to a local charity and got their name posted as founder of a new building, his business increased. He said that people came into his store just because he donated to a good cause that helped that community and got kids off the streets. This person is now donating more to charities without getting recognized.

Next time you have a chance to donate and get recognized take a chance on it. You will increase your business and your reputation.

About the Author

David Olmstead writes about Charity Donations. His main focus is how donating to a charity organization can be a useful tool to advertise. He runs the website on donation where people and businesses get recognized by donating to 100+ charities. Businesses get recognized with search engine traffic and being on the World’s Largest Donor list. People get recognized at the donating social networking site.

What are legal costs and obligations required to set up a charitable organization, and solicit donations?

looking to create mass donor base, to provide funds to offer needed money for kids to attend college/university, also provide general social benefits for small disaster relief (ie-housefire w/need to replace personal items such as clothing, commodities like food), xmas gifts for needy families with kids, etc

1. FORM A CORPORATION IN YOUR STATE
A simple process. Costs usually less than $100.
Contact your State Corporation Commission, in your state's capitol city.
Within the state's forms, you'll note that yours is a non--profit corp.

Part of your corporation is your "Articles of Incorporation".
Articles of Incorp. states how many on your Board of Directors,
how Corp. Officers are to operate. Basic stuff.
An easy version of this is available in the libarary, in one of those
"form your own corporation" books.

2. GET AN EMPLOYER ID NUMBER ISSUED
Forms are usually included in the above-referenced State
Corporation start-up kit.
Simple form, and no charge.

3. ASK (& OBTAIN) NON-PROFIT STATUS WITH IRS.
Contact any IRS office (or go online) and ask for both the Instruction Booklet and the forms to ask for Non-Profit status.
This IS a complicated process, but not impossible.
IRS has "non-profit specialists" who can help you.
This has a fee of $500.
And, there is no guarantee IRS will award your requested status.
I've had cases where I had to go back to them, with a revised
application 4 or 5 times. ... Till I gave them what they wanted to see!

To meet the IRS requirements, you'll have to form a Board of Directors, determine officers, and determine how often you'll meet. This information is usually included in your above-mentioned "Articles of Incorporation".
Also, you'll have to determine your "Mission" and your "Goals"
and state them in the application.

Confused yet?
It is possible to form a non-profit without hiring an attorney etc.
But, it is not for the feint hearted!

My first time applying for a group, I just read that booklet, called the specialists at IRS, and eventually, I wore them down!
Best of luck to you.
