Is it normal that I don't act like a teenager?
I am 14 years old and I don't have the same interests as the kids in my school which are watching disney channel,listening to rap music,freak dancing.
I don't have many friends,because I spend a LOT of time studying and preparing myself for college.Most of my friends are the people I work with while doing community service at the Red Cross or at City Hall.I read literatures of great poets,novels by respected authors,books relating to the journalism field,biographies of people who made a great impac,and others ... .Im not missing out on my childhood or anything,I love how I am.My friends shop at stores like Basic,Forever 21 and so on,but I prefer wearing classy clothing from stores like Banana Republic,New York and Company.
I'm 39; I'm a teenager's dad as well.
You note what the others are doing and wonder if that's normal. Guess what? You're acting like a teenager.
You want to dress better than others. Guess what? You're acting like a teenager.
You want to feel a little superior to others. Guess what? You're acting like a teenager.
You have a comfort zone and avoid what you're not as comfortable with. Guess what? You're acting like a teenager.
Congratulations on your hard work and your varied interests, which DO merit respect and encouragement. Just please remember that a mark of adulthood is to realize that different just means different...not better or worse.
Don't hide from your classmates. Being able to interact with them is a vital part of your education. It's not tested, but it's there.
