How do you get your kids out of the habit of coming to your bed in the middle of the night?
My kids are 8 and 10, and almost guarenteed, every night one or both of them end up in my bed sometime in the night. Even if theres no storm (which would be understandable). I think they are getting too old to do that. Espeically, cuz sometimes after a night of passion with my husband, we fall asleep naked. Well, thats just WRONG for kids to crawl into bed with us like that. And it also puts a damper on morning sex, which we both enjoy, but often can't cuz of "little company". I want to get them out of that habit. Is there a best way to handle that, or should I just let it go and be sure to put some clothes on after the passion is over? I dont want them to think they aint welcome to come to us if they are genuinely scared (storms, bad dreams, etc) But i dont want it to be a norm either.
Oh and their coming to my bed never wakes me up, so i cant walk them back down to their rooms, to try to start that kind of pattern, either.
I am a mother of ten kids and I have been married for 16years. My husband and I are very lucky to still have such a healthy sex life but it is something we make time for and work hard at.
As a result our bedroom is out of bounds to ALL of my kids including our two eldest who no longer live at home. It is an unwritten rule in our house that none of the kids come into our room without permission and even then we will generally get whatever they need for them. I have jsut given birth to triplets five weeks ago and they do sleep in our room naturally enough,but they will be out in their own rooms within about three or four months.
My kids know that if they are sick or scared during the night they can come to us of course they can but they always knock and generally either my husband and I will go and share their bed with them. Most of them have not been in our room I would say more than twice since the age of four months.
What I'm saying to you is make your room oout of bounds for the kids,if they need you they can knock but tell them unless it is an emergency they may not enter your room without permission day or night. Its crazy to have kids so old still sleeping with mommy and daddy! Good Luck
